Step Up Coaching

Step Up helps professionals to transform writing that is competent into writing with impact. Most corporations offer training in key areas such as team building and management; few offer help with crafting words that will persuade, explain, argue, analyze, justify, clarify and illustrate. The aim of Step Up is to effect positive and enduring changes to writing. Though clients are always welcome to submit special projects for review, Step Up is not an editorial service, rather an intervention that aims to transform relationships with the written word.

Step One
Set clear and specific goals. Some clients wish to be published in specific journals or would like help with special projects. Some wish to purge 'corporate-speak' from their writing style, or to achieve greater clarity and impact. Some are aware of specific stylistic tics or problems. In many cases, clients simply have the feeling that they could step their writing style up a notch or two with a little help.

Step Two
Review Writing Sample. Clients submit a writing sample for review in the form of a detailed report. Though inaccuracies in grammar and punctuation will be noted, the aim of this report is not to line edit but rather to provide a comprehensive overview of writing style. This overview will highlight strengths as well as blocks and hindrances to clear expression. Discussion of this report will reference coaching goals, specifically the gap between intention and articulation (What do you want to say? What are you saying?)
